With a budget of only $85,000 a year, the Farmersville Volunteer Fire Department has to look for additional ways to raise money.
This year’s fish fry is one of those ways.
“The funds raised by the fish fry will go to pay for additional equipment that our budget doesn’t pay for,” Fire Chief Kim Morris said.
According to Morris, most
fire departments are being required to increase training and equipment to improve safety ratings.
All the improvements are being done without an increase in the budget, making fire departments raise their own funds and apply for grants.
“We’re currently applying for two grants, one for an additional engine and the other for equipment,” he said. “Both would improve our safety ratings within the town.”
Tickets for the fish fry, which will be 5 to 8 p.m. May 17 at Tatum Elementary, can be purchased from any Farmersville Volunteer Firefighter or at the door.
The meal is $8 for adults and $4 for kids and includes fish, cole slaw, potato salad,
french fries, dessert, tea and water.
The department is also having a raffle drawing for a 32” LCD flat screen TV, a quilt, a handmade duck call and knife, and a Mossberg MOD 835 12 gauge shot gun.
“We’re also having door prizes of Brookshire’s gift cards given out throughout the night,” Morris said.
Raffle tickets are $1 each and can also be purchased from any firefighter.
