NEVADA — Community may have finished with a losing record in District 10-3A this season, but there was still much positive growth.
“Overall I was pleased with this season,” Braves’ head coach Jerry Quinton said.
“We made improvements throughout the season and had games where we were very tough. The kids did not get down despite losing several one-run games. I believe that next season will be even better.”
Community ended the season 2-8 in district play, which resulted in a last place finish.
Among those honored recently for their performances were the district’s co-Most Valuable Player Tanner Marshall (short stop) and Collin Strahan (outfield), who was named to the first-team infield.
Collecting second-team honors were Chance Crosetti (second base), Charlie White (first base) and Cody Kenemmer (pitcher).
Honorable mention went to Lance Marks (catcher) and Cory Navors (outfield).
“We have our entire starting lineup returning, which includes brothers Tanner (Marshall) and Collin (Strahan),” Quinton said. “Cody (Kenemmer) worked hard for us on the mound this last season and he will be graduating. Finding some pitching will be our biggest issue. I hope that with another year of maturity William (Strebeck) will be able to lead us in that area.”
The Braves will compete in the new 13-3A, which consists of Farmersville, Princeton, Emory Rains, Lucas Lovejoy (formerly of 9-3A) and Quinlan Ford.
They faced Emory Rains and Quinlan Ford this past season in 10-3A.
Quinton believes the new district should help the Braves be more “competitive.”
“I feel that the new district will be a challenge, but one that will be close and competitive,” he said.
