Farmersville added to its win total last week with a victory over Leonard and a 1-2 finish at the 15th Annual Bland Invitational.
They started things off Dec. 1 with a heart-stopping 72-70 win over the Tigers, which came via Payton Adams’ free throws.
Jeremy Callaway led all scorers with 29 points.
Also filling up the stat sheet were Keith Cooper (16), Adams (12), Logan Edge (eight), Colton Monk (three), Michael Thompson and Austin Brooks each had two points.
Two days later the Farmers started the Bland tourney with a loss to state-ranked Bland.
The Tigers are No. 9 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/TexPreps Basketball magazine Class 1A Div. I Top 25.
That defeat dropped Farmersville to the consolation bracket and a matchup with Campbell.
The Farmers made the most of it, winning 55-47.
That triumph pushed them into the consolation championship game versus District 13-3A opponent Community, which lost to Dodd City (66-59) and beat Trenton (53-43).
The Braves emerged with a 56-52 victory behind 16 points from Jaret Donaghe. Callaway again led the Farmers with 12 points.
Also chipping in were Tyler Ravsten (11), Cooper (seven), Monk (six), Dalton Wood (four) and Luke Scribner (four). Edge, Brooks and Michael Thompson each scored two points.
The Farmers returned home Dec. 8 versus Tom Bean (results were unavailable at press time) and will travel Dec. 10-12 to compete in the Celeste Tournament.
Subvarsity results
The junior varsity team lost 53-29 to Leonard and the freshman squad fell 34-27 to Princeton in a non-district showdown.
Farmersville’s freshman team takes part in the Dec. 10-12 John Paul II Tournament in Plano and then returns home Dec. 14 against Celeste at the intermediate school.
The JV doesn’t play again until Dec. 15 at Sadler S&S Consolidated.
