Foy, Inc., located at 111 Farmersville Parkway, has been named as the Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month.
Foy, Inc., began in 1978 and provides specialized software for aluminum extrusion companies.
The software handles order entry, scheduling, shop floor data collection, order status reporting, packing, shipping, and invoicing. The program is used by 100 plants located in 14 countries.
“We estimate that almost 15,000 people daily utilize the output of our software,” Owner Jim Foy said.
The business currently has five employees. John Stenger has been with the company for over 25 years, Stacy Coleman-Foley for 16 years, Scott Wilson for 14 years and Jason Naff for two years.
According to Foy, one selling point for his business is that they provide a unique product to their customers and support it with outstanding service.
“We answer support calls immediately, and we actively solicit customer input regarding improvements to our software,” he said.
Foy opened his business in Farmersville after moving here in 1976 and opening Texas Extrusion Corporation (where Advanced Fixtures is now located.)
“When I decided to start the software business, I knew I could operate more economically and certainly more comfortably here than in Dallas or Plano,” he said.
Foy entered the aluminum extrusion business after graduating from SMU School of Engineering.
When personal computers were introduced in the 1970s, he realized that there was a market for software he had written for his own use in the industry.
“I entered the software business about the same time as Bill Gates and Bill Joy, albeit with somewhat less financial success,” Foy said.
The company built their current facility about 3 years ago. Prior to that time they operated on the Square for 30 years, at 100 McKinney Street. For the first couple of years, Foy ran the business out of his home on College Street.
Though the businesses hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.. the company provides customer support during almost all hours of the day and night.
“After-hours customer calls are transferred to our email accounts, and we all check those accounts early in the morning, into the evening and on weekends. Our customers in Australia and South Africa tell us that we provide faster responses than do their local suppliers,” he said.
Many of Foy’s customers spend several days in Farmersville for training classes.
“They all comment on how much they enjoy the town, especially the restaurants, the downtown shops, and the friendly people. My decision to locate my business here was definitely the right decision, and I encourage others who might be looking for a business home to come to Farmersville,” he said.
