Showers usually involve a gathering of women and a smattering of pastel colors; however, a shower was held at  the Intermediate School Science Lab  May 14, and that shower featured kids, an unusual assortment of gifts, and lots of cheering.

The cheers were especially joyous when the total amount raised for the new science lab was announced – $25,584.46
The outdoor science lab will open its doors, or in this case gates, at the beginning of the 2010-’11 school year.

According to outdoor lab organizer and science teacher Marcy Whited, supporters of the new facility, including parents and grandparents, provided tools for the lab by purchasing gifts for students to open at the shower.

Weather instruments, things to help promote good bugs, birds, spiders and bats houses, and healthy soil tools were among the purchased items.

As the anticipated opening of the lab approaches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held; Whited said it will probably at the beginning of the school year.

The outdoor lab project was organized by Whited and many others as a way to help students understand scientific concepts, which are typically a difficult area on TAKS testing for students.
