The lyric, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” might well be the theme song for the Wilburns as the family gears up for the Farmersville Historical Society’s Annual Tour of Homes.
The Wilburn home, located at 14033 CR 567, was built in 2004 by the owners, Jeff and Shirley Wilburn.
The house showcases the look and feel of an old farm house that has been there for years, though it has been recently built.
A stone facade and cedar posts that run across the full- length front porch invite guests to take a seat and relax in the rocking chairs or swing.
A tile entryway awaits footsteps as the members of the family and guests walk onto warm oakwood floors toward a 1908 fireplace mantle.
The cook’s kitchen has oak beadboard custom cabinets and solid surface countertops that are a delight for all holiday meals and memories that are shared.
The home showcases inherited antiques along with new acquisitions that tell the family’s story.
A sunroom/quilting room provides hours of sewing-friendly sunlight while offering a view of farm life out at the corral.
The home features decorations from years of collecting in every room.
“No one will mistake it being our favorite holiday,” Shirley said.
The colorful sights, sounds of holiday music, and smell of gingerbread cookies never last quite long enough for the Wilburn family.
The tour will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 12.
Other stops on the tour are the Bain-Honaker house located at 108 College St., the First United Methodist Church located at 206. N. Main St., the Allen Wisdom home located at 417 Jackson St. and the Mark and Peggy Carmichael home located 2171 FM 2194.
